Property Description:

Cornell University's 14 colleges and schools offer more than 70 undergraduate majors, 93 graduate fields of study, as well as continuing education programs. In all, nearly 20,000 students can take advantage of more than 4,000 courses in nearly 100 departments.

Project Objective
The University wanted to evaluate the potential for using manufactured bathrooms in all new dorm construction.

Construction Challenges:
The project used pre-stressed plank construction. Bathrooms were large units that were shared by multiple students. Bathroom finishes and construction were of very high quality including both floor and wall tile, Corian® vanities and cubbies, wall-hung toilets, sheet-metal HVAC, and recessed lighting. In addition, the facilities were to be ADA compliant and use sustainable forest products.

The Eggrock Solution:

Eggrock developed a 12x13 ft bathroom unit that shipped without a floor so that two floor drains could be installed on site. The floor tile was finished on-site. The wall tile was included in the manufactured bathroom. The bathroom included all HVAC structures on the ceiling, terminating at the chase location. On site, a proprietary lifting system was used to load and maneuver the bathrooms into position in less than 15 minutes.
