Property Description:
Founded in 1701, Yale University ranks as one of the oldest and most prestigious colleges in the world. Each Yale undergraduate belongs to one of the seven residential colleges and most live at one of the school’s numerous dormitories, some of which date back more than 200 years.
Project Objective
Renovation of 62 dormitory bathrooms at Davenport and Silliman Colleges. The work included installation of new Eggrock vanities featuring Corian® Solid Surfaces, Symmons faucets, Kohler sinks, shatter-proof mirrors, and custom light sizes.
Construction Challenges:
As is the case with many older buildings, the rooms, and especially the bathrooms, are smaller than normal. In addition, the stairways are very narrow, and there is no elevator access. The University also required that all construction be handled by union labor and according to all union regulations.

The Eggrock Solution:
Eggrock custom engineered a modular vanity system that allowed 10 different versions over 62 units.
- Provided one-, two-, and three-bowl vanities, each with integrated plumbing, electric, mirrors, and lighting.
- Devised a modular design that allowed the vanity to be carried up the stairs in three pieces, yet provided simple assembly on-site by Union carpenters, plumbers and electricians.
- Slide-in-place design including leveling feet resulted in easy installation.
- Plumbing terminations were coordinated with the project architects.
